FACELIFT

Facelifts are some of the most popular procedures in the plastic surgery industry. Also known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure aimed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, it can also improve upon relaxation of the skin of the face causing sagging, deepening of the fold lines between the nose and corner of the mouth, fat that has fallen or has disappeared, jowls developing in the cheeks and jaw, as well as loose skin and excess fat of the neck that can appear as a double chin. In contrast to the traditional facelift that repositions only the skin, our procedure lifts and tightens even the soft tissue (SMAS) on the facial bone to remove wrinkles, which results in restoring a more youthful and natural appearance.

How is SMAS Facelift performed?

First an incision is made that typically begins around the hairline from the temple and curves around the earlobe, ending at the bottom of the hairline. Next, the skin is separated from the fat and muscle underneath. Underneath the skin is a layer of tissue called the SMAS, Dr. Kim tightens this layer by folding it; pulling it back over itself. This action tightens the SMAS layer, lifts the cheeks, and gives the jawline more definition. Finally, Dr. Kim pulls the skin back up over the area and removes any excess skin with a knife or laser, similar to the way that you would pull a carpet to tighten it over the floor and trim the excess. The incision is closed with stitches, sutures, or tissue glue. The stitches are usually placed within the hairline so they are hidden by the hair.

SMAS Facelift can benefit:

- People sagging in the cheeks and jowls.
