ABOUT
Hyperpigmentation is a medical term used to describe darker patches of skin. These patches result from excess melanin production, which can be caused by everything from acne scars and sun damage to hormone fluctuations. If you’re dealing with hyperpigmentation, know that you aren’t alone. Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition, and there are a number of different treatment options available.
OUR RECOMMENDATION
At CK Plastic Surgery we have several options to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation:
Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL)
IPL Therapy is a type of non-ablative (fractional) laser treatment. Also known as a photofacial, IPL therapy stimulates collagen growth within the dermis. It usually requires multiple sessions.
IPL Therapy is used for overall pigmentation issues, but flat spots especially respond to this treatment. It may also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, spider veins, and enlarged pores.
Vi-Peel
One of the safest and most effective chemical peels available, the VI Peel consistently provides patients with excellent skin rejuvenating results. The treatment is so gentle that it can be used to treat delicate areas of the face, such as underneath the eyes. The peel will eliminate hyperpigmentation, improve sun damage, diminish wrinkles, and eradicate acne scarring. The body’s natural Collagen growth and Elastin production are triggered after the VI Peel, continuing to improve the appearance over several months.
CO2
CO2 laser therapy treats pigmentation by destroying the outer layers of the skin and stimulating re-epithelialization and cell turnover in the deeper layers. This removes pigmentation and restructures collagen to both improve dark spots and reduce wrinkles. Most people require one or two CO2 laser treatments for best results. The recovery time from a CO2 laser treatment is generally about 1 week for total skin resurfacing. Please know that redness may persist for several weeks after the treatment depending on the intensity.
Skin Acids
Face acids, or skin acids, work by exfoliating, or shedding, the top layer of your skin. Whenever you exfoliate your skin, new skin cells emerge to take the place of the old ones. Face acids generally work well for mild hyperpigmentation on fairer skin tones.
